    503 Mail error

    Hi Guys,

Bound to be something obvious........ 8*)

I've set up two email accounts on outlook 2007 and I'm getting a "503 Valid RCPT command must precede DATA" message when I test, needless to say no mail is able to be sent or received.

I've found a few answers on google suggesting ticking the Outgoing Server Requires Authentification box but this doesn't help.

What stupidly simple thing have I missed? Something in Cpanel?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Steve

Well... that is the answer to the problem. Have you restarted your client when doing that?

Can you send an email to the same domain (same or different email address)?

Hi Matt, nice to see you!

When you say "restart your client"?

Your mail application Just close and open it again, that may help.

Try sending mail to yourself on the same address -if that works, it's an authentication issue with your mail client not sending the username/password before it tries to send.

What server are you on and what does the domain start with?

OK (on another note, you should collect your email with the full email address as the username ie. user@domain.co.uk, not just the username)

Those errors generally mean that the address you're sending the mail from does not exist. (Have you created the mail account for them)?

    Re: 503 Mail error

Probably not, it is me after all!

In email accounts on Cpanel I've got the username in the default mail at the bottom of the page.... Is that what you meant?

    Re: 503 Mail error

In CPanel under "Set Default Address" it says "To send all default mail to the main mail account, simply type the user name of your cPanel account in the email address input field."

However it won't allow me to just use the username - could that be the problem?
